Get that baby ONYA already!!

It is not too often that a BRAND NEW never been made before soft-structured baby carrier comes on the market. No ‘fourth generation’, no ‘II’, no ‘now with designer fabrics’. I mean brand spanking new! And not only NEW, but GOOD. Like really really good! That is what happened in September of 2011 at the ABC Kids Expo in Kentucky, with the official launch and release to market of the Onya Baby Carrier. And babywearers everywhere were itching to get their hands on one to try it out and see for themselves what all the hype was about and what this new carrier had to offer. I was no exception! I “met” Diana Coote, the creator of the Onya Baby on Twitter and we started having great babywearing conversations. I immediately loved all the great things she was posting about babywearing and living an active lifestyle with baby! So,...

A twofor from Natural Mother Productions.

I have been very remiss and absent from my babywearing blogging lately. I am so very sorry everyone! So to make up for it, I have a two in one review for you!! A few months ago I got an email from a lovely baby carrier making Mama of 7 (her last pregnancy was a twofor as well)! She wanted to send me one of her carriers to see what I thought of it. Well, you know me, I am not one to pass up trying out a new carrier and I am especially pleased when it is from a fellow Canadian Mama working to support her family while doing something that she loves. So without further ado… Here is Natural Mother Productions! Michelle Dunn is the creative juice and super mama behind this brand, and she makes the loveliest custom mei tai and full buckle carriers! So she...

Straightforward. Enigmatic. Outstanding.

Straightforward. Enigmatic. Outstanding.

Are three words that I would use to describe my good friend Jennifer Banks. Search Engine Optimization also happens to be what Jen does for a living at Epiar, THE search engine marketing experts in Edmonton. And she is really, really good at it! Last week I had the pleasure of hearing her present to a group of Bossy Mama entrepreneurs and teach us as much as she could about SEO in just under two hours. Not an easy task and yet, many of us left that room with so much information and tasks to do that I am sure there were a lot of late nights for some this past week. Now I am no expert in this at all, and in reality, I am actually a very recent (6 months) convert to the powers of SEO. And this is all because I had the pleasure of meeting,...

Natasha’s Pick of the Week: Infinite Fitness

June 7, 2011

So remember a few months ago when I was all “I’m having a pity party cause I dislocated my hip and then had knee surgery and now I am all bloated and lopsided and I need a personal trainer”? Well, I found one. A REALLY GOOD ONE! Her name is Jessica Zapata and she is co-owner of Infinite Fitness Personal Training. And she is KICKING my butt! I have been working out with her and doing my homework workouts at home and also trying to maintain a pretty strict diet that she has put together for me for the last 4 weeks and I am very happy to report that it is all working! I have lost 4 pounds and am feeling so much stronger already. It also helps that Jessica and I have a whole lot of fun while she is kicking my butt too. I am sure...

Natasha’s Pick of the Week: Vancouver

This past weekend was a first for our little family. It was the first time Natural Urban Dad and I have escaped from left both our kids and the first time they had a sleep over at NaiNai and YeYe’s house.  We headed off for a nice romantic getaway to the lovely city of Vancouver and they set up their sleeping bags in the family room at my in-laws place and had a camp out with their grandfather. To be completely honest, I thought that leaving them for the weekend would have been harder on me, but it really wasn’t. They gave me enthusiastic hugs and kisses goodbye and then went back to jumping around on their new sleeping bags. The dog cried more the day before when I left her with my sister! Vancouver was the perfect spot for us to go to for our first little getaway...

Natasha’s Pick of the Week. MAUI!

Last year at this time we were just returning from a week of fun, sun, and sandy beaches. It was our second trip to the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. And I miss it sooo much! It really is the perfect holiday location for just about everyone. Honeymooning couples, families with small children, families with teenagers and also big extended families too! Here is a list of my favourite spots to stay, eat, play and just chill while on Maui. Where to stay. I love Wailea. It is on the south-west side of the island and is home to some of the best beaches, shopping and resort hotels on Maui. Both times we stayed in Wailea we rented our accommodations from private owners through www.VRBO.com. You can find some great deals if you shop around and I would also recommend getting some referrals or recommendations from people who have...

Natasha’s Pick of the Week. Duchess Bake Shop. (Need I say more?)

Natasha’s Pick of the Week. Duchess Bake Shop. (Need I say more?)

Today I had lunch in heaven. Or at least as close as I can get to heaven here in Edmonton! I had lunch with our interior designer, the very talented Dawn Stiles, at the Duchess Bake Shop today. Duchess is one of those places that you walk into and you feel like you are immediately transported to another era and quite possibly another place. In this case it is a little bakery on a side street in Paris, circa 1957. In reality, Duchess Bake Shop is on 124 Street just north of 107 Avenue right here in our own lovely city. They make ALL of their fabulous pastries in-house every day from scratch and use only the freshest and finest ingredients! I am pretty sure EVERYTHING there tastes divine, but I definitely know that their signature cake ‘The Duchess’ is fan-freakin-tastic. Today Dawn introduced me to the Salted Caramel...

I am just over a week and a half into my 30 days of posts. It is proving to be both very fun and also quite a challenge.  It takes some serious thought and organization to get all this brilliant writing out to you people! (This is me saying, please subscribe and leave comments so I know all of this is not in vain!!) Seeing as it is Monday, that means you get my pick of the week today. Today’s picks are fellow fabulous bloggers that I have discovered over the past few months and weeks. There are literally thousands and thousands of blogs out here in the world-wide web, but I thought I would narrow it down for you and let you know about a few that I really enjoy reading. Some really make me think, others make me laugh until I cry, others just plain make me...

Natasha’s Pick of the Week: Ring Slings!

Natasha’s Pick of the Week: Ring Slings!

I love my ring slings!! The first baby carrier I ever bought was a ring sling and I still have it and still use it. Ring slings are one of the three kinds of baby carriers that I think all parents should own (the other two being a wrap carrier and a soft-structured carrier). And here are the reasons why I love ring slings: You can use a ring sling from day one of your baby’s life! And because it is a one-size fits most kind of baby carrier, you do not have to get a specific size for either you or your child. (I carried my 4 lb premature son in ours almost everyday at home!) Kind of repeating myself here, but ring slings are adjustable. And that means that they can easily work for a 5′ 2″ Mama as well as the corresponding 6′ 2″ Daddy, as...

Chimparoo Woven Wraps and Mei Tais

Chimparoo Woven Wraps and Mei Tais

You all know that I love babywearing, that is kind of a given.  But what you may not know is how much I LOVE babywearing with woven fabrics!  Woven materials are the IDEAL fabric for babywearing. They are soft, so beautiful and because they are NON-stretchy, they are STUR-DY. A good woven wrap offers optimal baby support as well as wearer comfort. You can use woven wraps from day one of your baby’s life all the way up to….well, let’s just say I know a few 4 year olds who still enjoy a nice piggy back in a woven wrap! Case in Point! I am very happy to announce that the Chimparoo line of woven wraps and mei tais have arrived at Natural Urban Mamas. Chimparoo is a Mama-Owned Canadian company out of Quebec and all of their baby carriers are made right here in Canada and are 100%...
