Why 50 Shades is good for you.

Why 50 Shades is good for you.

I caved. BIG TIME. I had heard about it a few months ago, but didn’t really buy into the hype. I mean, it’s not like I was a stranger to erotic fiction. I was reading The Story of O and Ann Rice’s (writing as Ann Rampling) Sleeping Beauty Trilogy way before women all over North America started googling BDSM and realizing that a full bladder equals a bloody amazing orgasm! So, YES. I have now read all three of the Shades of Grey books and I am not ashamed to say that I thoroughly devoured and enjoyed all of them. Today I read a post on the Yummy Mummy Club site by Kat Armstrong, their new Celebritease writer in which she ponders this “mommy porn” phenomenon… “But there’s something about this book…. that keeps drawing women in, but I completely don’t get it. I don’t understand how poorly written erotic...

My week with Big Betty: Review of the King Ranch Ford F-150

It was bound to happen. I am a born and bred, never lived anywhere else Alberta Girl. I like {free-range, organic} beef and pork products, I enjoy a good rodeo every now and then and the thought of a man in a cowboy hat, on a horse, in a pair of tight Wrangler jeans does hold a certain raw appeal for me…. Hmmmm. Sorry, what was I saying? Oh yes! So, really, it was only a matter of time before I found myself behind the wheel of something like… . . . . . THIS!! Meet Big Betty. Also known as the 2012 King Ranch F-150 Ford Pick-up Truck. Now before you get all, “Um? Helloooo, Ms. Natural Urban Mama, what the heck are you doing reviewing a HUGE truck when you live in the middle of the Big City and you claim to be all about the environment?”,...

Mama Music. Review & Giveaway: ‘The Full Catastrophe’

We have a WINNER!   Zita on May 9, 2012 at 4:43 PM There is nothing in the world that moves me quite so powerfully as music. I have genres to fit all my moods and get very antsy in ‘silence’. Lately, I’ve been very into lyrics as well- I appreciate a lot of the poetry that’s emerging in new indie music.  Great review, N! Congratulations Zita! An email will be sent to you shortly. Thank you to everyone for entering! **********   I have a 3.5-year-old and a 5 year old. I know all the words to the Hello song, the Goodbye song, the Clean-up song, the Ridin’ in the Car song, the Playin’ in the Kitchen song, the Sleepyhead song and countless more. The 6 CD-changer in my car has been overtaken by all of the kid’s music class CDs, not to mention what is on my iPod,...

My week with Gloria. AKA the 2012 Ford Focus.

A few weeks ago I got to hang out with a new friend for a week. It was a good week, we didn’t go anywhere too fantastic, just toodled around town with each other, getting groceries, taking the kids to and from school and hitting up a yoga class or two. Gloria was a good companion to have around. She was smooth, easy-going, and handled herself very well everywhere I took her. And to top it all off, she has one heck of a snappy style to her. Check her out! Yes, Gloria is a car. She is in fact the 2012 Ford Focus Titanium Hatchback. When I was first asked if I wanted to drive the Focus, I thought now why would I want to drive such a small car. I have 2 kids. We need WAY more room than that. But then I started to think about...

Get that baby ONYA already!!

Get that baby ONYA already!!

It is not too often that a BRAND NEW never been made before soft-structured baby carrier comes on the market. No ‘fourth generation’, no ‘II’, no ‘now with designer fabrics’. I mean brand spanking new! And not only NEW, but GOOD. Like really really good! That is what happened in September of 2011 at the ABC Kids Expo in Kentucky, with the official launch and release to market of the Onya Baby Carrier. And babywearers everywhere were itching to get their hands on one to try it out and see for themselves what all the hype was about and what this new carrier had to offer. I was no exception! I “met” Diana Coote, the creator of the Onya Baby on Twitter and we started having great babywearing conversations. I immediately loved all the great things she was posting about babywearing and living an active lifestyle with baby! So,...

A twofor from Natural Mother Productions.

I have been very remiss and absent from my babywearing blogging lately. I am so very sorry everyone! So to make up for it, I have a two in one review for you!! A few months ago I got an email from a lovely baby carrier making Mama of 7 (her last pregnancy was a twofor as well)! She wanted to send me one of her carriers to see what I thought of it. Well, you know me, I am not one to pass up trying out a new carrier and I am especially pleased when it is from a fellow Canadian Mama working to support her family while doing something that she loves. So without further ado… Here is Natural Mother Productions! Michelle Dunn is the creative juice and super mama behind this brand, and she makes the loveliest custom mei tai and full buckle carriers! So she...

Renewing my love of the SSC…..

Renewing my love of the SSC…..

I really like Twitter. A lot. I have ‘met’ so many people through this little corner of the internet, both online and more and more in real life and even though we are located all over the world, I am connected to these people. Some of whom have really changed my life and spurred on my passion and love of what I do! And on the heels of my first blogging conference all about connecting with brands this post seems quite appropriate. Why you ask? Well, because of all the bigger babywearing companies or brands out there, Boba is one that is doing things right! They connect with their audience and their customers and they share both their own knowledge and those of the babywearing community freely and openly via their Twitter account and on Facebook. I personally have connected with at least three different people in the Boba Family...

Introducing…a BRAND new baby carrier!

How often do you get to be THE VERY FIRST PERSON to try a new product? Well, that is what has happened to me. Recently I got be the first person to try out the NEWEST carrier from Cosy Baby Happy Mommy, The Buckle Tai baby carrier. Erin Heard, the creative force and CEO of CBHM brought me a prototype of her new carrier a few months ago and asked me for my thoughts! I gave her some feedback and she went and tweaked it a bit and VOILA!! The new COSY BABY HAPPY MOMMY BUCKLE TAI!! What is a ‘buckle tai’ you ask? Well, it is quite simple really. It is a modified mei tai baby carrier with a padded waist that has a buckle closure and traditional long mei tai top straps. It combines the best of both a full buckle carrier (soft structured carrier) and a...

It’s a kinda Magic…..{the babywearing kind}

In case you have not figured this out yet, I LOVE to babywear. I really, really do! There are so many great reasons to do it and so many ways to do it, that even though my babies are not quite ‘babies’ anymore, I still find ways to incorporate babywearing into our daily lives and new baby carriers to add to my stash!! So when about a month ago, my good friend and fellow entrepreneur Erin from Cosy Baby Happy Mommy presented me with a new baby carrier, her CBHM version 2.0 woven wrap, and asked me to give it a go and tell her what I thought about it, I was like, “Ummm, yes please!!” Erin started manufacturing woven wraps in a limited quantity last year and I was happy to purchase one of these early versions from her and have her do a very beautiful custom dye...

It’s Baby Signing Time!!

It’s Baby Signing Time!!

I know a lot of people sign with their kids. What I did not know was how amazing the process can be. I signed with Calis late, and mostly just the basics (more, milk, please, thank you, help). We have been signing with Leryn since she was old enough to pay attention and the last few weeks have been amazing around here! I say we, because it really is a family effort–Calis signs with her, Daddy signs with her and of course I sign with her as much as I can. And thanks to a lovely mommy that I met at the library one day, we discovered the Baby Signing Time series by Rachel Coleman. These are an amazing series of DVDs that help you and your baby learn to sign together. They are filled with catchy songs, babies signing and some cute animations. Both of my children love...
