It’s all about ME! {at least for today}

Please forgive me, but today’s post is all about shameless self-promotion!! It is turning out to be a great week at Natural Urban Mamas and for a lot of really awesome reasons. 1. As I mentioned before, Natural Urban Mamas is now the Exclusive Canadian Retailer for the Cosy Baby Happy Mommy 3rd Generation Mei Tai. These are amazing and beautiful baby carriers that are custom made-to-order! I am so excited to be able to offer these to our customers and I am working on some great new and exclusive prints for you all as well! 2. I started the Summer Blogging Challenge! 31 posts in 31 days (this is post #3). I have done something similar before and I will get it done again. I just have so much to write!! I really hope my typing can get a bit faster so that it can keep up with...

2011 Summer Blog Challenge

THIS is what happens when you spend 2 days with 2 fellow bloggers on a hill listening to {AMAZING} folk music. The “hill” in question, aka, The Edmonton Folk Music Festival  You get suckered into another crazy daily blogging challenge!! Okay, well, I guess I could have said NO, but meh… So here I go again and aren’t you the lucky ones!! Thirty-One (yup, 3-1) days of blog posts from MOI and from a whole host of other bloggers from ALL walks of life, most of whom I do not know. (see list below) There are no specific topics and no set deadlines, except for posting before midnight every day. I have a feeling that my posts will be all over the place for the next month, but that is a good thing. There is a lot going on with me and around me so I am not really...

With great {word} power comes great responsibilities!

With great {word} power comes great responsibilities!

Here is the thing about blogging. It is kind of like journaling. In the sense that I can get my thoughts out of my head and onto the screen and once they are there, then I often feel purged or elated or better about a situation, or a thought or a topic or even myself. But unlike journaling a blog is public. Once you hit that publish button, it is OUT THERE. For all who want to to read, comment, criticize and judge. So there exists some editing that must be done, in blogging and in life. And right now I am having a major dilemma about both. I need to get something off my chest. It had been kept inside for over a month and is starting to fester and all I want to do is blog about it! I usually don’t operate like this. If something (or...

Love thy Labels.

Love thy Labels.

No, not the ones on your clothing or your car or your purse. I am talking about the ones we give ourselves, the ones others give us, the ones that we use to define who we are. There has been a lot written this past week about labels and about using our words well, especially when speaking to or about mothers and/or our parenting choices and styles.  The lovely Amber McCann wrote this post and it really got me thinking about the labels we use daily. And then I read Claire Weissinger’s essay entitled “Watch Your Language” and that gave me even more food for thought.  I agree with these ladies wholeheartedly that yes, words are very, VERY powerful. If they weren’t, would the blogging world be what it is today? Words do a lot of things. They connect us. They divide us. They make us feel good and yes, they can make us...

Throw Down!!

April 1, 2011

I have been dared to do something. And not just a regular dare…a TRIPLE DOG DARE. The kind you just can’t say no to. It even says so in Wikipedia: The infamous Triple-dog-dare is infamous for the sole reason that you cannot back down from it–without exception! An issued triple-dog-dare has no counteraction and must be implemented and/or carried out. So, of course I am going to do it. I can’t NOT do it, that would just, well, make me a pussy. Right? So what is the dare you ask? . . . . . The lovely and sassy Jen Banks (you might know her as @JenBanksYEG on the Tweeter) had triple dog dared me to write 30 blog posts in 30 days. Before I get into that, here are a few things you need to know. I do not believe in consequences. I believe that EVERYTHING happens for...
